COMPANY INITIATIVES
An integral part of Michiana Laminated Products missions is the continual identification, assessment and measurement of our manufacturing activities and how these impact the environment. Michiana Laminated Products, Inc. strives to do its part to produce products and services in the most efficient manner thereby supporting Environmental Sustainability.

Due to federal, state, and socio economic movements towards a more environmentally aware population, Michiana Laminated Products maintains an ongoing effort to educate itself, its Associates, and its customers regarding environmentally sustainable practices. This includes, but is not limited to the continuous implementation of policies and procedures regarding our industry’s relationship to the California Air Resource Board (CARB), the USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification Process and Rating System, and Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC).

In addition to the ongoing educational practices mentioned above, Michiana Laminated Products recognizes that conservation and recycling are key components of protecting the environment. Environmental goals have been assimilated into our overall business plan and are reviewed each year as to their viability and cost efficiency. The viability of an environmentally responsible capital investment or implementation includes our ability to meet or exceed the expectations of an environmental goal and to do so cost effectively. The following changes have been made to assist in reducing our environmental footprint. Please note that the first four items implemented reduced our landfill waste by 95% since 2003:
  1. The continual evaluation and current recycling of all metal and plastic disposable containers, all scrap metal including packaging materials such as steel banding and edge protectors, worn tooling and old hardware, and the recycling of all office paper, and cardboard.
  2. The 2008 purchase and installation of a Vecoplan Waste Reducer VAZ 120 / 125U which allows the grinding of all wood waste into a compact box container for recycling, our model is similar to a RG42U.
  3. Beginning in 2006, the transition from halogen lighting to more efficient Semaphore T-5 light fixtures.
  4. The 2006 purchase and installation of an Alup Allegro SCD 40hp Variable Speed Air Compressor offering a 25% energy savings over our previous model.
  5. Dust control equipment purchased in 2002 has been instrumental in improving air quality internally and externally, as has been the installation of additional air movement equipment. The State of Indiana has certified our air quality every two years under a “Minor Source Operating” permit since 2000 indicating compliance with clean air requirements.
  6. Gradual shifting of material usage towards materials that are FSC approved, CARB compliant, and that provide our customers with LEED credits towards their projects. Please see additional information on our materials page.
